
Do you have a great idea for a food product—and want to learn how to take it to market?
In the Prepare a New Food Product for its Commercialization Build Project, you’ll step into the shoes of a food industry innovator. Over 8 weeks, you’ll develop a brand-new food product from scratch, create a master recipe, and prepare all the technical and business documents needed for mass production and distribution.
You’ll be guided virtually each week by Food Scientist Zulma Paredes, with live workshops every Tuesday at 4:00 PM ET / 1:00 PM PT.
🚨Important Note: This project is specifically designed for Spanish-speaking students.
While some English terms may appear in documents or group discussions, all workshops will be delivered in Spanish.
💡 What You’ll Learn:
- Present your commercialization plan in a professional, industry-standard format
- Analyze food content — determine levels of vitamins, fats, sugars, and proteins
- Understand EAN barcoding systems (used for packaging and tracking)
- Learn legal and regulatory standards: USDA, OSHAS, HACCP
- Apply Good Manufacturing and Storage Practices
- Design affordable, health-conscious food products with sustainable packaging
- Build marketing strategies that connect with real consumer needs
🧠 Prerequisites:
- Fluency in Spanish (all instruction is in Spanish)
- Basic knowledge of nutrition and culinary practice (e.g., through college coursework)
- Familiarity with Excel (tables, formulas, basic formatting)
- A general understanding of product development (from concept to commercialization)
- A creative mindset and the ability to generate innovative food ideas
