Let’s be real, finding an on-campus job right now is tough. Positions fill fast, hours are limited, and competition is high. But that doesn’t mean you’re out of options. In fact, there’s a flexible, often better-paying alternative that many students are jumping on: Household Jobs.
Please note, these positions are not applicable to International Students due to Federal Regulations.
What Are Household Jobs?
These are one-time or short-term gigs from people in the local community who need help with everyday tasks. things like:
- Yard work or raking leaves
- Moving furniture
- Cleaning garages or basements
- Babysitting or pet sitting
- Running errands
- Painting or small home projects
In short, they’re the kind of jobs that don’t require a résumé or a long application process, just a willingness to help out and earn some money.
Why It’s Perfect for Students
Let’s break it down:
- Flexible Scheduling: You choose the jobs you want, when you want them. Got a full load of assignments one week and a lighter one the next? No problem.
- Quick Pay: Most gigs pay the same day. No waiting for payday or dealing with HR.
- No Long-Term Commitment: Unlike campus jobs, there’s no semester-long obligation. Just pick up what fits your life right now.
- Real-World Experience: Whether you’re cleaning out a garage or helping someone move, you’re learning problem-solving, communication, and time management — all great skills for your résumé.
How It Works
We collect and post household job opportunities submitted by community members. You can browse what’s available, choose what you’re interested in, and you can reach out directly to the employer – a method we recommend as Calvin Career Center does not manage the hiring process. Simple as that.
Some weeks you might pick up a couple of jobs. Some weeks you might not take any. It’s totally up to you.
